DTI contains valuable information about the organization of fibrous structures. However, the interpretation and analysis of tensor fields are very complex, even though the tensor model is a simplification of the raw diffusion data. To circumvent this complexity it is usual to generate scalar maps such as the fractional anisotropy (FA) and the mean diffusivity (MD), discarding most directional information. GOAL: proposal of a new DTI map, based on the concept of vector field divergence, which carries useful information about spatial organization of neuronal fibers.
